Flat Feet Q&A
What is flat feet?
Flat feet simply means that your feet lack an arch. If you have flat feet, you’re also likely to have inward-tiling heels and toe drift, in which your toes tilt slightly outward instead of straight ahead.
There are two general types of flat feet:
Flexible flat feet
Flexible flat feet have an arch when you’re sitting or laying down. But, as soon as you stand, the arch vanishes.
Rigid flat feet
In rigid flat feet, you never have an arch, whether sitting or standing upright. Rigid flatfoot is a more complex type of flat feet in which the bones dictate the lack of arch.
Flat feet aren’t necessarily a problem. But if it causes symptoms like sore feet, tired-feeling feet, or frequent swelling, flatfoot usually requires treatment.
